About the organization
Mission Statement: Our centerpiece event is the New York Rose of Tralee Selection: An annual gala in which an unmarried young woman of Irish heritage (between ages 18-28) is crowned "The New York Rose of Tralee". The winner of this Rose Ball is sent as a representative of New York to the International Festival to compete for the Much coveted title "The Rose of Tralee". Since the first selection of "The Rose of Tralee" in 1959, a New York Rose has represented The Greater New York Area in the Rose of Tralee International Selection in County Kerry, Ireland. New York has brought home the crown numerous times, beginning in 1974, when Maggie Flaherty was the first New York Rose crowned The Rose of Tralee. No Centre has won the title in successive years. However, New York was the closest, when Marie Soden won in 1976, only two years after the first New York Rose was crowned. In 2000 Roisin Egenton was crowned, after a gap of more than 20 years and currently, New York Rose, Lisa Murtagh reigns as The 2007 Rose of Tralee. The New York Rose of Tralee Organization is a satellite of The Rose of Tralee International Festival. We are a Non-Profit Organization in The State of New York and are currently awaiting our 501(c)3 status.
